Charles Harris 10K & Mardi Gras

My friend Joan and I did the Charles Harris 10K this morning. She had never done a race before and wanted to get a feel for it before the half next month and I wanted to get a qualifying Peachtree time.*

You had the option of picking your number up beforehand or at the race, so we decided to go last night so we wouldn’t have to get in line. I also picked up a water bottle with a handle and some body glide. I set my alarm for 6:15 and went to sleep.

Well, what do you know? 6:15 comes along and my alarm didn’t go off! Even though I checked it numerous times to make sure I didn’t set it for PM (Thank you Seinfeld!), I somehow neglected to remember to turn it on! Fortunately, I woke up exactly at 6:15. I was kind of worried about the coldness. It was about 30 when I woke up. I put on running tights, a long sleeved shirt, gloves and a hat. I picked Joan up and we were on our way.

There wasn’t anything too spectacular about this race. It was basically along a major road and went from Point A to Point B. The course was mostly flat, with some small rolling hills. What I really liked was that at each mile marker, there was a big timer that had your time. In every other race that I’ve been to, it’s just someone shouting out the times, if even that.

We stopped and walked two times for maybe 3 minutes each. We finished the race in 1:06 which I thought was pretty good considering the walking. I think that if we would have run the whole thing, we might have done it in less than an hour. Afterwards, we picked up our shirts, which were nice Brooks technical shirts, and walked to my car. We stopped at Einstein Bros and then I came home, showered and took a 3.5 hour nap!

I’m about to go to a Mardi Gras festival right now. We shall see how that goes. I’m kind of thinking it might be really crowded and annoying, but who knows? Might be fun.
Fittingbackin (who’s name I think is Kelly!) tagged me to post what I want for spring. I haven’t been able to get to it yet, but here is something I most certainly want.
