Do you ever come across people who don’t know you have a blog and say that blogs are stupid or they think people who blog are stupid, or whatever? That happens to me every so often and it happened to me tonight. These people are my friends; they wouldn’t say these things if they knew I had a blog, they just don’t know. In this case, I just changed the subject. I almost said, “I have a blog.” but chickened out. The way I see it is there is not really a big difference between keeping a journal or diary and blogging. I’ve pretty much kept a journal since I was 14 or 15 years old. I like to write and I really like engaging with other people about topics that I choose to write about. I think that’s really the point. Most of the people who read my blog are interested in the same topics – health, food, exercise etc. It’s nice to have a group of people who have the same interests. I could bore some of my friends ears off, and probably already have, when I talk about health related stuff. Really, most of my friends don’t want to hear about high-fructose corn syrup and the like. Which is what makes me so glad that I have found somewhat of a community that does share my interests.
I have had In My Tummy since February of 08. Before that, I had a marathon training blog which started at the end of 06. And before that, I was an active participant on a health-related message board (which some of you know!) where I had several journals. It’s almost like going to a free psychiatrist.
Why do you blog?
