Christmas Eve Soup and Salad

Today has been fairly productive, considering it’s Christmas Eve. We managed to take Murphy for an hour walk, go the gym, have lunch, go to Publix and go to Pet Supermarket all before 3 pm. I had suddenly realized this morning that we hadn’t gotten Murphy a Christmas present and felt like a horrible dog mother. Obviously, that had to be remedied, hence the Pet Supermarket trip. He has to wait until tomorrow to open his gifts though.

Since we are in town for the holidays, we’ve been doing a lot of home improvement projects. Okay, if I’m being honest, Jason has been doing a lot of home improvement projects. He also built our first fire in our house and didn’t burn the house down!

I’m impressed. I grew up in a condo and while we did have a fireplace, we never used it. I think my mom was scared of it, as I would be too.

While Jason made the fire, I cooked a nice Christmas Eve dinner.

I think soup is probably my favorite thing to eat, especially in the winter. But I never think to serve it with something else. At least not until tonight.

This was Low-Fat Spinach and Artichoke soup that Tracy posted. This is a Souper Jenny recipe which is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I used to work near there and we used to go a few times a week. I think I might need to buy this cookbook. Jenny knows her soups. Thanks for the recipe, Tracy!

My salad also came from a blog. This is Quinoa with Roasted Veggie Salad from Green Plate Dinners. It was also delicious.

Now, I’m stuffed. Adding a salad to the soup, especially a grain-based one, really makes a filling meal.

Do you buy your pets Christmas presents?

It’s Official

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen this tweet this morning.

I am lucky enough to have both today and tomorrow off, so I figured I’d be productive and get something done that I’ve put off for almost six months. Any guesses to why I’d be at the Social Security Office and then at the DMV? Yup, I finally changed my name.

I’ve been going by my new last name since we got married in June, but officially, I still had my last name. This caused some major confusion when I started my new job, because not only did I have a different last name on my paperwork than they knew me by, but I also had a different first name since Lee is a nickname. The HR person isn’t in our Atlanta office so she’s never actually met me and she was seriously confused.

The whole process took about two hours which wasn’t so bad. It helped that the DMV was like five miles down the road from the SS office. My old last name is now my middle name.

If you are married, did you change your name? If so, did you keep your middle name or did your maiden name become your middle name? If you aren’t married, what would you do?

Year in Review or I Have Writer’s Block

I got a dSLR camera and took a million pictures of Murphy. This continued through the year.

We sent our our save the dates which I designed.

It snowed! This was a big deal in Atlanta.

Jason and I went to see Spring Awakening at the Fox Theater.

I ran the ING Georgia Half Marathon (my 6th half)

I went to DC for our wedding tasting. It tasted good.

I turned 32. How did that happen? I still feel 22 (and act like it as evidenced by the 40 in my hands. Which was just for show, by the way.)

We bought our first house!

I went to a Braves game.

My stepmother threw a bridal shower for me.

I had a bachelorette party. Look closely at the straw.

Jason and I got married!

Jason and I ran the Peachtree Road Race. It was my 5th time running it.

We went to Maui for our honeymoon.

Our favorite day was when we woke up at 2 am to drive to the top of a volcano and biked back down.

Apparently, nothing of interest happened in August because I have like no pictures.

We had a housewarming/Jason’s 30th birthday party! Yes, I’m older than he is.

Not much here either! I did run another half marathon but I don’t have any photographic evidence!

Jason and I went to Asheville, NC which was awesome.

Had Thanksgiving dinner at my dad and stepmom’s house in MD.

And then to my mom’s five minutes down the road.

Had an early Christmas weekend with Jason’s parents in SC.

There was a lunar eclipse which I slept right through but Jason got an awesome picture of.

Okay, that was way too many pictures of myself, I know. I told you I had writer’s block.
