There were two big festivals going on this weekend in Atlanta: The Dogwood Festival and the Sweetwater 420 Festival. Jason and I didn’t know which to go to on Sunday, so we hit them both.
First, we drove to Candler Park to check out Sweetwater. Despite the name, the festival isn’t what you’re thinking. 420 is actually the name of Sweetwater’s most popular beer. Though I’m sure the double entendre is not lost on them, it’s a family-friendly festival with bands, food and a small artists market. Oh and Sweetwater beer, obviously.

We hung out for about two hours before we decided to head to Piedmont Park to go the Dogwood Festival. The Dogwood Festival is probably the most popular Atlanta festival (and there are a lot of them). There are tons of artists, a dog frisbee contest, bands and, new this year, I think, carnival rides.

It’s fun to walk around, but I’d venture to say that it’s really too crowded to enjoy yourself. And forget buying any art. There’s too many people and it’s too expensive for that.

After maybe an hour, the crowds and the pollen got to us and we grabbed some dinner and after what felt like an eternity, got home and passed out at 8:30 pm. Festival hopping is exhausting! Let’s hope we’re recovered by next weekend when it’s time for another festival – the Inman Park Festival. I hope so, but for now I’m festivaled out.

I haven’t gone to any festivals yet this year. Better get on that before it’s 100 degrees out every day!
Inman Park is next weekend. I think it’s my favorite.
I felt the same way about Dogwood this year. And the pollen.
Inman Park has always been my favorite though. I’m hoping to make it out there next weekend!
I think it’s my favorite too. We’re going on Saturday, not sure what time yet.
J would love to go to the sweetwater festival! Hes a huge fan
I like the idea of supporting a local brewery, but I just don’t really like any of their beers! The one that I did like, a wheat beer, they got rid of. And they don’t have any lighter lager type ones, which I like the most.
Sounds like a lot of fun! But very tiring. Good way to spend some nice weather days, thought right?
I love the Inman Park festival! I’m sad we’re missing it for the half. PS- Sweetwater isn’t my favorite beer either… like you said- they don’t have any lighter lagers!
Sounds fun! I’m going to a festival Saturday called Sweet Life festival, organized by a local salad shop. I’m excited for the bands, but not for the exhaustion.
I’m kind of sad we missed the festivals, but I am also happy that I did very little this weekend — sometimes you just need a time out.
