Leaving the Annoying Day Behind

So I wrote this whole thing about how today was so annoying – my air conditioner in my car stopped working, my allergies were killing me, I was pissed off about something at work, I forgot my socks when I went to the gym, etc.  But then I read what I wrote and realized that I sounded kind of like a whiny brat, so I erased it.  Although, I really did just write it anyway.  I’m sneaky like that.

Instead of whining, I am going to post pretty pictures.  Flowers are pretty.

Flowers

Flowers with mimosas and berries are even prettier.  I promise I don’t usually drink at breakfast time.  This weekend was an exception to the rule.  I really wish I’d dusted that table before taking a picture.  Now you’re looking at the dust, aren’t you?

Flowers berries

You know what’s not pretty but still good?  Frozen fish from Trader Joe’s.  Seriously, it’s the only place that I’ve found where frozen fish actually tastes good when it is thawed and cooked.  Both Kroger and Publix’s frozen fish tastes horrible and I don’t even really like Whole Foods.  Trader Joe’s is where it’s at.  I dug out this cod from the depths of my freezer.

Cod broccoli

See, definitely not pretty, but it was good.  The sauce reminded me of Chinese food.  I baked it for about 12 minutes at 375, although the directions say you can pan fry it or microwave it too.  Microwaving fish?  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

See, I feel better already.  The annoying day is behind me.  And to forget about it even further, here’s a fun survey that I stole from Laura:

Coke or Pepsi? Coke, specifically of the Diet variety although I don’t drink it much because it hurts my stomach.

Lemonade or Fruit Punch? I don’t really like either.  Actually, that’s not true.  I like some lemonades, but I am picky about it.  There’s this taste that’s often in lemonade that I don’t like.  It’s the same taste that I don’t like in sour mix.

Carmel Apple or Cotton Candy? Meh, neither really.

Butterfinger or Snickers? Snickers.

Pudding and Jell-O? Pudding, although I like Jell-O Pudding so I guess that’s both.

Turkey or Chicken? I don’t eat either, but when I did, I preferred chicken.

American or Provolone Cheese? I guess provolone.  I like very basic cheeses – cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack.  Although I do like goat and feta, not blue.  I hate blue cheese.

Crackers or Cookies? Obviously cookies, although I like crackers too.

Pretzels or Chips? Chips, but I do like pretzels too.

Mexican food or Japanese food? Japanese.  I like Mexican food when I make Mexican style things at home (aka opening a can of refried beans and pouring salsa on it), but I often feel really sick from the cheese from Mexican food at a restaurant.

Chinese food or Italian food? Chinese.

Pie or Cake? Really, I prefer ice cream over both.

Ice Cream or Cookies? See above

Pasta or Pizza? Pizza

Soda or Juice? Does Vitamin Water Zero count? I only like the lemonade and orange flavors though.

Chocolate Bars or Chocolate Truffles? I don’t know how to explain this, but I don’t really like chocolate.  That’s not true – I like milk chocolate – but not chocolate flavored anything or anything very chocolately.  I’ll always choose vanilla ice cream over chocolate.  But I guess chocolate bars, provided they are milk and not dark chocolate.

Apples or Bananas? Such a hard choice. I guess bananas because sometimes apples are mealy and you don’t know they’re mealy until you take a bite and it’s a huge disappointment.  With a banana, you know.

Salad or Soup? Soup, although I like salad too.

Cauliflower or Broccoli? I like them both, but probably like broccoli more.

Onion Rings or French Fries? French fries for sure.  I don’t like onion rings.

Blizzard or McFlurry? I don’t think I’ve ever had a McFlurry.  I do like a Frosty, is that similar?

Fried or Poached Eggs? Fried

Crepes or Pancakes? Pancakes

Hashbrowns or Roasted Potatoes? Oooh, tough choice.   I’ll go with roasted potatoes.

Oatmeal or Cereal? Cereal.  I know, I know.  Kick me out of the healthy blog world.

  1. Sometimes we all need a little whine! I hope tomorrow goes better :)

I really like the frozen fish from Trader Joe’s too. It always defrosts well and personally I like ugly food.

  2. I didn’t even notice the dust.

How about a Frosty with french fries dipped in it? YUM.

  3. That’s not dust. Wait until you have 2 kids then you’ll know dust. :-) Hope you have a better day today.

  4. Sorry about the crappy day – glad it’s behind you.

I’ve tried that fish, and while it’s far from pretty, I thought it was delicious. I served it over sauteed red cabbage for a more Asian feel. Yum

  5. You seriously crack me up, I love what you said at the end about cereal vs. oatmeal LOL. I’ll convert you one of these days, I swear!!

Also – I think you should’ve included more whininess in your post, if you had an annoying day, why not blog it out? Sometimes it’s the best remedy in a situation like that.

BUT I’m glad you turned it around and ended the day on a high note, that fish from TJ’s looks so yummy! I love their frozen scallops and shrimp, really really good stuff!

  6. I keep meaning to try some of the pre-seasoned fish and meats at Trader Joe’s. They look really good.

  7. I like your survey … mostly because I had leftover roasted potatoes for breakfast topped with cheddar cheese and a fried egg, all the while dreaming about a Diet Coke!

And sorry about the annoying day. I would have read all about it and not thought you were a brat. I just would have told you socks are no biggie and to be glad that you didn’t forget underpants in your gym bag when you went to the pool before work like this gal has ;) Cheers to a better day!

  8. Hope today is going better! Sorry for a crappy day yesterday. I like how you were so positive though and turned it all around. :)

  9. Whining on occasion is my favorite :)

I might have to borrow this survey, since I love them! :D

  10. Hahahahaha I love your reasons for picking bananas over apples! Good to know the frozen fish at TJs is good!

  11. You’re right, TJ’s has GREAT frozen fish!! I love it, but haven’t tried that one, looks so tasty!! I also hate blue cheese, but love almost every other kind. YUM. Glad your annoying day is over and you aren’t whiny, don’t worry ;-)

  12. All that stuff would be annoying, and I would totally whine about. I hope tomorrow is better!

  13. Yeah I hate days like that. You just have to power through!

  14. It’s okay…sometimes whining is just the cure we all need! Hope today is better!

  15. Crappy days suck :-) I hope today was better!!

  16. I like some of the TJs frozen fish… the salmon has never been that great when I’ve tried it.
Amazingly, we differ a bit on that survey. Just when I thought we were clones!! :)
