Kickboxing

I’ve been going to exercise classes with one of my co-workers on Thursday nights.  We have done spinning twice, a boot camp class once and tonight we tried kickboxing.  It was an hour class at LA Fitness.  The instructor was…very energetic. I wonder if he slammed some Red Bull before class.  It was hard, but I liked it, although I could not keep up with some of the punching combinations at some points.  Coordination is not my strong suite.

It was fun to do something aside from running and weight training, so I think I’ll be back.  Maybe I can keep up next time. I kind of like switching it up like this.  My co-worker is actually starting a new job soon (sad face), but we have said that we’ll still meet up at the gym after work and take these classes.

Also, I had lunch at Flying Biscuit and it was delicious.  Tofu and tater salad with a whole wheat biscuit, for the win!

Here’s a gratuitous Murphy picture, because I feel like I need a picture in every post and he’s cuter than I am.  Random dinosaur behind him?  We found it in the yard.  It’s also sort of cute.

  1. Yayyy! So glad you’re enjoying the classes

  2. I used to take kickboxing back in high school and my abs have never been as tight as they were when I was doing it back then. It’s exhausting though.

  3. I love kickboxing! Bonus: it’s indoors and away from the pollen.

  4. Kickboxing always makes me feel badass. Nothing like beating up air :)

  5. I love classes for mixing things up. Makes it all more fun. And you know I love Flying Biscuit. Oh so good! I will be dreaming about their biscuits all day now.

  6. Cool! I’ve always wanted to try kickboxing! I’m sure that if I had gone with you, I’d have been equally uncoordinated :)

  7. OMG I freakin’ love your dog, he is the cutest thing ever – so fluffy like a big teddy bear!!

  8. Coordination’s not my strength either. I like kickboxing DVDs, but I’m too intimidated to go to a class.

I’m jealous of your dinosaur. All we found in our yard was a plastic shovel, a squishy blue ball, and an old to-go cup under the porch. Dinosaur > Trash

  9. I used to go to the kickboxing classes at my gym all the time – I agree that it’s a great and fun alternative to running and weight training!

  10. What a cutie pie dog (lol at the dinosaur). The workout switch up sounds like a good plan for you right now!!

  11. Switching it up is great, keeps the muscles guessing!

  12. Stop the train! Flying Biscuit has whole wheat biscuits???? How did I not know this???

  13. Murphy looks psyched :)

I’ve never done kickboxing…or spin. I’m intimidated by both!

    • Spin is actually not as intimidating because you can control your own resistance and pace. So you make it as hard or easy as you want.

  14. fun! I love working out with my co-workers AND I love LA Fitness. Cute pupper picture!! “slammed some red bull” haha

  15. Yeah!! I love group ex classes!! (duh)
I am not the “super energetic peppy” instructor-type, but I do keep it lively and use a lot of humor and keep it REAL. I encourage people to growl like a tiger or make horrible faces when it hurts- because it’s just better that way.
Kickboxing is awesome- that would (or will) be my next cert. :)

  16. I like the dinosaur! And Murphy pictures!! You know I’m a sucker for puppy pics. Kickboxing is fun but I have trouble with the coordination too! I’m glad I’m not the only one :) I don’t know where those instructors get their energy from.
