Green Market on Main

One of the things that I don’t really like about where I live is that it’s not particularly walkable.  Sure, there are nice neighborhoods with sidewalks, so it’s not bad in that respect, but as far as actually walking to a destination, it’s not so great.  There is a small downtown area, about a mile away, but there’s not much there, and, aside from an okay bar, not much to walk to.  So, I got sort of excited when I saw a sign saying that every Sunday morning, they were going to set up a Green Market.

Jason, Murphy and I decided to walk up to the market and explore. You wouldn’t think I lived only a few miles outside of Atlanta.  Looks like total small town, doesn’t it?

This was the first weekend of the market and, although there weren’t a ton of stalls, there were enough people there that I think there’s some potential for it to become larger as the summer goes on.  Plus, King of Pops was there. You know it’s a legit market or festival when King of Pops is there.

Obviously, we had a popsicle.  I had Pineapple Habenero and Jason had Mango Lassi.

The pineapple was good, but it could have had some more habenero.  I couldn’t really taste the spice.

There was only one stand that had produce.

The rest of the booths had things like quinoa (we bought some), salsas, hummus, dog treats, organic biscotti, things of that nature.  I hope that in the future, they have more fruits and veggies.  I think they will.

We had a good time, but someone had an even better time.

Is there a farmer’s market near you?

  1. OMG Murphy is SO Cute in that last pic! Jealous your farmer’s markets are open!! I can’t wait for them to open here! And jalapeno pineapple popsicle?! that actually sounds really tasty! Glad you had a good weekend! (first with Jason not working?!)

  2. WHAT we have a farmers market on Main Street now??? Oh I can’t WAIT to get home! This is such an awesome thing, our town really needs it! You’ll know just where to find me every Sunday. ;) I hope King of Pops returns because I’m always trying to find him but have yet to have one of his famous popsicles!

  3. King of Pops! I need that Coconut Lemongrass flavor! That looks like a pretty decent market, and it’s only going to get bigger and better. I love the photo of Murphy getting some love. :)

  4. I live in the same type of area. I drive everywhere or ride my bike!

  5. Its a great start! We have lots of farmers markets this way. Two in my town and a few in towns surrounding

  6. There are a few in our area that I noticed last year, although last year I was always biking during the times they were open. Since my schedule is SO much shorter this year, I’m hoping to partake. :)

  7. I loooove a good farmer’s market! Especially one with popscicles like that — I have never seen or heard of those, they sound delish! I love that you two got to spend time together this weekend, feels good I bet :)

  8. We only have a farmstand in my town, which is pretty typical of NH, I think. There are a few farmer’s markets scattered around, but they’re all the same vendors with really high prices.

Oh, King of Pops…I miss you.

  9. King of Pops sounds AWESOME!! Our big farmers market opens next weekend. I am so happy- I spend way too much money on produce at the store when it’s not open.

  10. I have never heardof King of Pops! I will certainly seek this out when I go to Pepper Place in Birmingham Sunday. That is my favorite FM so far. In Tuscaloosa, we have a brand newly built area by the river for the farmer’s market. It just opened a couple of weekends ago but there wasn’t much to it when I went. I didn’t even get inside pictures. The collegiate triathlon was going on downtown too, so that may have been a problem. I’m going by there first before I drive to B’ham Saturday. I need my farmer’s market fix.

And Murphy is such a rockstar. We saw a couple of tables with homemade doggie treats in the Florida farmer’s market. I thought that was a great idea!

  11. That sounds great! I am looking forward to checking out some of the nearby markets here soon.
Walkability really is great, hopefully this will give you more of that in the future.

  12. How fun!!! Lol at Murphy. Such a cute dog.

They attempted to start a Farmer’s Market about 3 miles from my house and it ended up being lame and fizzling out. Boo!!

  13. Ahhhahahaha Murphy!!! So cute! That is awesome they have a green market near you now!! I hope it does grow and that more produce is there next time! keep us updated! :)
