Ordinary Sunday + Foodie Penpal

This was the first “normal” weekend that Jason and I have ever gotten to spend together.  That sounds so weird, but it’s true.  He was at his former job, working weekends, for the entire time that we’ve been together, almost five years.  He’s taken off weekends here and there, but that’s always been for a specific event, so this past weekend was really the first time ever that we just had an ordinary weekend together.

After getting home from the farmer’s market on Sunday morning, I threw together a quick salad.  I used this recipe because I had some Baby Bok Choy on hand that was in danger of turning yellow.

After lunch, I took a nap while Jason did some errands.  I warned him about the nap thing. Napping is pretty much my favorite weekend activity, although I do admit that I prefer it on Saturdays because if I nap too long on Sundays, there goes the entire weekend. After I woke up, I did some typical Sunday afternoon things (i.e. grocery shopping, laundry, dishes) and we decided to grill out on the deck.

Grilling

I had tofu while Jason had steak and shrimp and we both had a veggie kabob.

After dinner, we went downstairs and watched Moneyball, which I liked more than I thought I would. It really was a very ordinary Sunday, but the fact that we could actually spend it together made it special.

Speaking of special (good segue, huh?), I participated in the Foodie Pen Pal program for the first time this month.  My pen pal was Hilary at RedheadedInk who sent me the following items:

Foodie1

My haul included some local kale chips (which I ate in less than 24 hours), a recipe to make my own kale chips, a Justin’s Peanut Butter Bar, some Emergen-C packets and some smoothie packets.

She even sent some local dog treats for Murphy!  He loves them.  Seriously, he keeps jumping up on the table when I open the bag.

It was really fun to get a package in the mail and I’ll be participating again next month.  If you are interested in participating, here’s the details:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
If you’re interested in participating for May, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.
You must submit your information by May 4th as pairings will be emailed on May 5th!

  9. I’m so glad y’all are finally getting normal weekends together!! When Jesse and I first started dating, we had a similar situation, and his work schedule was never the same so it was hard to plan things. I was so happy when he finally got a job where he would never have to work weekends. It had been over two years that he had an irregular schedule!!

  10. What did you season the tofu with?
