Back to the Routine

After nine days of eating, drinking and general merrymaking, I’m ready to get back to my normal routine.  Obviously, even though I like my job, I’m not that excited about getting up early and heading back to work but after a vacation, I always crave the routine that I’ve been missing.

Yesterday, Jason and I met up with some of our friends at the Virginia-Highland Summerfest.  It was fun to see our friends, drink some beers and go to some parties but it just sort of solidified the fact that while I can’t hang like i used to (we left at 10pm; I’m sure everyone else stayed out way past midnight), I don’t necessarily even want to either.  I didn’t feel hungover this morning, just sort of gross.  After four days of excess in Vegas, I’m not sure why I needed to continue the party streak.  It just sort of happened that way.

That ended today, however, after I made my way to the gym for a weight routine and then Jason and I just did general things around the house, including eating some healthy (finally!) meals.  We didn’t have much food in the house, so Jason scrounged together what we did have and made tuna salad sandwiches.  He used a recipe he found online, but I’m not sure which one it was.  Whatever it was, it was good regardless.

We finally made it to Publix in the early evening and were able to replenish the food in our cabinets.  I decided to make the recipe that Ashlee included with my foodie penpal box.  I think she might have made the recipe up herself, so I don’t know if I can type it here but it was shrimp with soba noodles (which she included), spinach, garlic and white wine sauce.

Thank you Georgia for getting rid of your ridiculous Sunday alcohol sales law.  I couldn’t have made this meal two months ago on a Sunday without preparing ahead of time.

I felt better today after eating well and exercising.  I’m looking forward to returning to my normal life.  If only I didn’t have to get up early and go to work tomorrow.

  1. I know that feeling! Actually, I just decided that after my vacation this week the rest of the summer is “Sober Summer.” I’d really like to focus on fitness and seeing where I can take my body. That’s going to take a lot of eating clean!

  2. Welcome home!! I always struggle with getting back to a routine after vacation, good for you that you’re excited about it. :) And yay for Sunday Sales, of course ot waited until I was moving to happen. ;)

  3. I am the same way. I can only take so many days of living it up before I want to get back to the routine. And a healthy meal after a vacation is always so comforting.

  4. I always feel better after a few days into routine again too!

  5. The first day back at work after vacay is the worst, you’re right. But it’s after noon on Monday, so I bet you survived :)

  6. Getting back to normal eating habits is definitely my favorite part about returning from vacation. Welcome home! :)

  7. Welcome back home :) I kinda enjoy coming back from vacation and settling back into my routine.

You couldn’t even buy wine on Sundays? In VA you can’t buy liquor on Sundays.

    • Nope. Until this year (May in my county, but earlier in other parts of the state), you could not buy any alcohol in stores on Sundays. You could order it in restaurants but not buy it in stores which was so dumb.

  8. Every time I’ve gone to Vegas, I’ve need a week to recover!! I think I’m still recovering from my last trip- which was um… 8 years ago?? :)
I need to spend more time on Pinterest. I never use it. It’s just another addiction waiting to happen…
