Trader Joe’s Favorites

I work about 10 minutes from Trader Joe’s so I decided to make a trip after work today.  I didn’t have a list with me; I just wanted to get some staples.  Apparently, I wanted to get lots of staples.

Trader joes staples

See those ice creams on the left?  The box is open because I ate one on the way home.  Don’t judge me.  It looks like some random stuff and it is, but I did get a lot of my Trader Joe’s favorites.

Asian vegetable stir fry

I really like this Asian Vegetable Stir Fry.  There are lots of pre-cut veggies, so it’s super easy.  Plus, the size of the container is deceiving and holds more than it looks like.  I think there’s probably a good four servings in there.

Avocados

A girl that I work with told me that Trader Joe’s has good avocados.  I’m sure I’ve bought them from there before, but I never really thought about it.  I decided to listen to her, though, and bought two of them.  They’re not quite ripe yet.

Eggplant parm

Eggplant is actually one of the few vegetables that I don’t like.   Except for Trader Joe’s frozen Eggplant Parmesan.  I have no idea why, but I really do enjoy this.  Probably because the cheese and tomato sauce cover up the taste of the eggplant.  It’s baked, not fried, so the calorie count is not bad at all.

Eggs cheese

Although I’ve been on a waffle with peanut butter kick lately, one of my breakfast staples is an egg sandwich.  One egg, 2 egg whites and a slice of cheese on some sort of bread.

Gnocci

I’m not a huge pasta person, but I really love this Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina.  Especially with extra goat cheese.  Speaking of…

Hummus goat cheese

As you probably know, I’m obsessed with hummus.  That said, Trader Joe’s is not my favorite.  That honor goes to either Hannah (the brand they sell at Costco) or Sabra.  However, if I’m at TJ’s, I’ll pick up some hummus.  I try to get different kinds each time.

Peppers

I eat a ton of frozen peppers.  How’s that for random?  I’ve written about how I eat refried bean salads a lot.  Well, what makes them a salad, as opposed to just refried beans and salsa, is that I eat them with peppers.  I swear, it’s delicious.  Sometimes I’ll throw some lettuce in if I’m being wild and crazy.

Tom yam soup

This Tom Yam soup is a new find.  It comes with a spice packet that I don’t really like, so I don’t use, but the broth and the wontons are really good.

Despite all the goodies that I bought, I took advantage of not being hungry when I got home (possibly because I ate an ice cream sandwich on the way) and made a proper dinner, instead of popping the gnocchi into the microwave.

Miso kale tofu

This was Miso Kale Salad with Miso Roasted Tofu. I ate an embarrassing amount of it and now miso full.  Haha, miso funny too.  Okay, I’ll stop now.

  1. The TJ’s on Peachtree Parkway? That’s the one I go to, too! Actually we used to live in Peachtree Corners and so that whole area is my old stomping ground! :) Thanks for sharing your favorites–there are so many products at TJ’s that sometimes I get overwhelmed and don’t know what to try next!

  2. There are a few items from TJ’s that I absolutely love and wish I could keep in stock at all times, but the nearest one to me is the one on Monroe and I hate driving down Ponce. I always feel like I’ve narrowly escaped death after driving on that road. Every few months or so I’ll risk it for some vegetable masala burgers.

  3. I love that you busted into the ice cream sandwich on the drive home! I always open the pint of ice cream right when I get home and eat a big scoop. I love it half-melted from the car ride.

I had miso tonight to. Miso on the same brainwave as you.

  4. miso full – LOL! that’s hysterical. I LOVE TJs! I don’t live as close to one anymore but when I go, I stock up too. LOVE their almond butter and organic crunchy peanut butter. Do you like those? I also like their greek yogurt, though my favorite goes to Chobani and Fage of course ;-) Great finds!

  5. A TJ only 10 minutes away…that is awesome!

  9. Car snacks are the best part of grocery shopping! I miss working near a TJ’s. All other grocery stores are so expensive in comparison.

  10. Trader Joe’s is the best — I buy all of my groceries, besides CSA produce, there and always have a great experience. They also have amazing customer service, which makes it easy to stay a repeat customer.

  11. Ha, your miso jokes crack me up. I wish I had a Trader Joe’s near me! Wilmington is supposed to get one, so maybe after we move we’ll have one in the not-too-distant future.

  12. Lee that last line had me laughing so hard! Have you ever tried their granola bars? So good! Trader Joes is like a mecca of undiscovered foods for me. Every time I go in I find something new I love.
