Mid-Week Trader Joe’s-ing

I really thought I was going to be good and not buy any more groceries until this weekend.  But somehow, I found myself taking a left instead of a right after I left the gym and guess where I ended up?

Trader joes

And to answer the sign, no, I did not remember my bags because I didn’t intend to go grocery shopping until this weekend.  It just happened.  I realized that man (and woman) cannot live on Lean Cuisine and protein bread alone.  Honestly, my freezer looks really full because there are two loaves of bread and two packages of bagels in there.  Not that I’m complaining about my contest winnings, but all that protein takes up a lot of room.  The fridge, on the other hand, was looking a little barren.

Empty fridge

That top row is like all condiments, despite the fact that condiments are supposed to go in the door.  Also, that Michelob Ultra Cider is probably going to be in there until the end of time because I didn’t like it.  I’m not sure why I thought I would.  So anyway, I stopped at Trader Joe’s some staples.  And I stayed away from the frozen foods, not an easy task at Trader Joe’s!

Of course, I got some fun new (to me) stuff too.  I mean, just buying staples is no fun.

Coconut milk yogurt

Coconut milk yogurts and chocolate coconut water.  Apparently, I have a thing for coconut.  I’ve actually had the chocolate coconut water before and although it sounds totally gross, it’s really good.  It tastes like Yoo Hoo which I used to love!

Multigrain cereal

Multi Grain cereal.

Power to the greens

My favorite greens in one bag!

Cherries

3 lbs of cherries.  Umm, what was I saying about wasting food?  I am determined to eat these.  Even if I have to put them on protein bread.

  1. I actually did out cherries on protein bread. I toasted a bagel, topped it with PB (made from peanut flour), and then melted some cherries in the microwave for a few secs to pour over the top. It was pretty awesome.

  2. Do they make you pay for the paper grocery bags? In my parents’ county charging for even plastic bags is the law. Now, even when I go clothes shopping I bring a big purse so I don’t have to buy bags. But it kinda looks like stealing, hmmmm.

Btw, I really dig that TJ’s soy creamer. A little goes a loooong way!

  3. You could always freeze half the cherries for smoothies….although I know your freezer is full at the moment.

  4. I used to love Yoo Hoo as a kid! I have no idea what’s in it, but it can’t be good. haha I’m a big fan of the chocolate coconut water. Initially, I thought it would be disgusting, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Those cherries would last me about a day and a half. I have a cherry “problem”. ;)

  5. Cherries are so good right now! I’ve wondered about the chocolate coconut water. Sounds interesting.

  6. If only cherries didn’t have pits. I’d eat them all the time, but de-pitting them for the kids? Biggest nightmare ever. Not worth it. Sorry, cherries, you’re too much labor.

    • Yeah, I actually put a cherry pitter (it was less than $10) in my amazon cart last night. For now, my method is just to spit them out, but yeah, I imagine that wouldn’t work too well for kids!

  7. Diet Coke for the win! I picked up a huge bag of cherries this week but realized that I’m the only one who eats them. I pitted them (the pitter is so worth it – try Bed, Bath & Beyond w/coupon) and froze them with the idea of making sorbet or smoothies.

I am so jealous of your Trader Joe’s. I’ve been dying to go to one since forever but northeast Indiana is lacking in TJ’s. Boo!

  8. I really don’t blame you. If there’s a Trader Joe’s close to wherever I am…I’m going in! Oh and you can make beer bread with that cider since you don’t want to drink it. It will work the same! I hate throwing things away, so I always find a use for stuff I can’t eat or drink.

  9. I love chocolate Zico! So good!!

  10. Do you usually like hard cider? I do and I’ve been wanting to try that light cider, but maybe I’ll change my mind.

  11. I still need to make a trek down to the TJ’s we have here!

  12. Those oats are my absolute FAVE. I can only find them at TJs! I will drive all the way there just to get them (but usually have 2 extras in my pantry because I’m a hoarder!)
