WholeFruit Smoothie Review

I struggle with doing product reviews on the blog.  On one hand, I love to try new products and really love it if they’re free but on the other hand, I sometimes feel like I have to give the product a positive review since it was sent for free.  So I’m going to try to be as honest as possible with this one.

Since I have an affinity for ice cream, when the people from WholeFruit contacted me to see if I wanted to review their new frozen smoothies, I jumped on it.   They sent three flavors – strawberry banana, mixed berry and pineapple mango.

They came in a box with some dried ice.  I think Jason was more excited about that than the smoothies.  He immediately started playing with it.

Yes, I realize it looks like he’s taking a bong hit.  He’s not.  I promise.

Back to the smoothies.  Each cup has 100 calories and 2.5 grams of fat.  Each cup has 15-17 grams of sugar, depending on the flavor.  They are decently sized too.  (Not that you can tell from this picture, but they are.)

The box said that you could either eat them straight from the cup or microwave them for 20 seconds for a more legit smoothie texture.  Being impatient, I chose to try them straight from the cup.  What did I think? Let me preface by saying that I’m not a big fruit-flavored ice cream person.  I’ll almost always pick something that’s vanilla based.  These tasted like sorbet, which isn’t my favorite thing.  They were good though, and liked that they were portion controlled.  I haven’t tried microwaving them and I think that they might be good mixed into an actual smoothie with milk and fruit but I haven’t tried that either (you know, the impatient thing).  The company also sent me a cocktail recipe which was basically to microwave the smoothie and then add your favorite liquor, but I haven’t tried that either.

They also sent a coupon organizer.  I wonder who they bought it from and if they know that I work for a promotional products company.  Okay I’m sure they don’t know that!

  1. I like sorbet and I like portion control. I might have to try these.

  2. These look decent, but probably aren’t something I’d buy, just because it’s easy enough to make my own smoothies.

  3. i could see using them….i never put the energy into smoothies and wouldn’t one too high cal bc they don’t realy fill me up. i do like fruit ice cream (well, really i just like a basic non-choc flavor w/ lots of “chunks” (those can be choc)). i’d just need to work on not eating all of ‘em at once….. though it would be good to try…my tendency to treat a pint of ice cream as a servginv is NOT good….yummy, comforting (my excuse these days) but not so health-smart.

  4. They sound interesting. I wonder if my boys would like them for a quick breakfast or treat? I’m always looking for something like that for the boys…quick, easy and healthy.

  5. Yum, I bet that would make an awesome cocktail!

  6. Thanks for the honest review. Like you said, I think a lot of bloggers feel pressure to make all reviews positive, so it’s good to get one in which your opinion was mixed.
