Even though it will probably be warm for at least another month, if not more, today sort of marked summer’s last hurrah as we did something that we can only do in the summer. We went white water rafting!
Our friends Joan and Sean came over at 7am and we headed north to Ducktown, Tennessee, about a 2-hour drive. (Well, it was supposed to be. It was more like 2.5 hours. Damn 285 and it’s traffic at 7:30 am!) We arrived at the Ocoee Adventure Center about 10 minutes before our scheduled rafting time of 10 am.

Our trip took us on the Ocoee River for about 2.5 hours. The Ocoee is fun because there are lots of sections of small rapids and you really don’t have to do any heavy paddling between them. Each raft holds six people plus a guide. We were hoping that the four of us would get our own raft, but they stuck another couple in with us too. Oh well.

By the time we got back to the Outfitters and changed into some dry clothes, it was probably around 1:30 and we were starving, so we stopped at a Mexican place in the nearby town of Copperhill. Poor Jason drove the entire way home while the rest of us slept in the car.
Our original plan was to go out tonight for some drinks with friends but I think we really underestimated how tired we’d be. After I showered, I took another 45 minute or so nap and Jason has been asleep for the past two hours. We just can’t hang like we used to! I’m fine with it though because honestly, I’m having some weight-related self-esteem issues as of late. I just am unhappy with the way I look. So, needless to say, after going out for a somewhat indulgent dinner last night (no pictures; the restaurant was really dark) and eating a bunch of chips and queso for lunch, I was perfectly content making myself a healthy dinner of blackened tofu and brussels sprouts at home rather than going out again. Bonus, I had all of the ingredients at home and didn’t have to get out of my comfortable pajamas.

Sounds like a fun time!! And dinner in PJ’s pretty much sums up most of my nights…ha!
One of the best Saturdays of the year! We’re ready to start planning the next trip. And relieved we weren’t the only ones too tired to go out
How fun! I have always wanted to do that.
Ahhh, so fun! I’ve only been rafting once, and it was soooooo long ago. I’m due for another go at it.
We used to white water rafting on the Guadalupe river all the time. It was such a blast!
I really want to try white water rafting. In Oklahoma we just tubed, or floated, down the river and it required no effort or skill whatsoever. I think having to paddle would be way more fun.
How fun!! I cannot hang like I used to either. How we used to party all weekend? Now just a football game does me in!
SO awesome!! I’ve been wanting to do this forever! There’s all kinds of different river rafting companies in Harpers Ferry. We’ve only ever gone tubing through them, but have a gift certificate to go zip-lining.
